Technology in the classroom
As I reviewed the resources for this week I noticed that the ESL classroom would be able to benefit from some those resources. The advances in technology today is amazing and to think it will only continue. Many of the classrooms are now diverse, which means they are full of ESL learners. Our schools have to become equipped to be able to assist those students who do not speak English as their primary language. One of the ways that classroom teachers can now began to navigate the ESL learner is by using the Google translator formula in Google sheets.
How awesome is that students are able to create a list of English words that they can have translated into their native language. This is an amazing example of how technology has been advanced over the years. Students enter the US for many different reasons, and they're already in some cases find themselves behind because of their language barrier. begins can create Google sheets and go back and use it as a study guide, a homework tool, or even as a way to communicate with their peers.
This tool can also benefit the teacher in the classroom as well. Most times teachers have obstacles with communication with students and parents because of language barriers. I believe Google sheets will allow teachers to create documents that can be in the native language as well. Which is another way for parents to be more aware of what is within the classroom. Parent involvement is definitely key with the success of students academically. Research has shown that parents who do not speak the same language at home are not able to assist their children, so this will allow us as educators the ability to make accommodations for both students and parents.
